That’s the way I like it

Let me keep a record about how we spent the last several hours of 2005. It was a hot day. Yes, all I can say is “hot” before people invent some new words to describe the terribly hot weather in the summer. The sun just gave us the heat without mercy and the tempreture should be over 39 degree?

We tried to find a cool shuttle in Woden’s Shopping Mall to avoid staying in a heat-accumulated house and on the way back to home at around 2:00pm, we stopped by the Officeworks to buy a 2006 diary book for me. After we got out from the shop, guess what had happend? Our car broke down again!!! :( Frustratingly worst thing we could ever imagine in that moment.

Well, there was nothing we could do about it. We tried everything we knew by going back to shop again to let the car have a rest for a while; we bought two 1.5 litres water bottles to fill up the water tank; we pushed the car to a place that didn’t block the way; we even moved it and park it perfectly in the parking lot just right in front of a building which looked like there even had nothing ever happend although it was impossible for us to move it into a shade.

We could not stay in the car in such the hot weather, otherwise I suppose we would die of heat stroke in 5 minutes. So we had to find another cool place nearby the car to wait. The flies were really annoying and chased around us; the ants and spiders were all over under the trees or at the corners where we tried to find a shadow to stand. My arms which still suffered hives and sunburn made the situation worse to put up with. And this was the last day of 2005, something couldn’t happen just happened.

My husband suggested to walk a distance to have a look at some car yeards in Fyshwick. All right, it was better to do something than waiting here like two big fools. So we got moved, I mean in the sun and heat. We ran between each shades and stopped to have a rest in shady places. There was no one, no one walking on the roads except us which looked really rediculous. About in 10 minutes, we poped into the first car yard where was a Toyato car dealer, then the next one…… But it was really too hot to find a car. We had nothing achieved finally and decided to go to Bunings Warehouse, where my husband insisted to buy two camp chairs while I had no mood at all consuming anything and thought he must be crazy considering we have to carry these two chairs walking back to our car!!!

His crazy idea proved a life-saving tip. The car was still dead when we got back. Luckily we had these two chairs to have a seat under a big tree. As a result, we were sitting right beside the road facing the traffic which looked very very very unbelievable and funny. Most of people in the passing by cars couldn’t help looking at us two big freaks and guessing what’s going on with us. I assumed that they would ask “why these two Asian guys were sitting here on their camp chairs and looked so relaxing? This was absolutly a wrong place and wrong time to do such things.” Well, whatever, TMD I don’t care anymore. We just tried to find a way to survive and survive with the a little bit human dignity.

Anyway my husband rang the NRMA and the petrol guy came over to check the car at about 5:30pm when we have spent and been exposed in sun bath for 3 hours. At about 7:40pm the towing car finally arrived and got us back to home. It was 8:15 pm when we at last sat our asses on the crouch and felt extremely exhausted.

What a great experience to spend the last day of a year! When you have gone through all the pain, you get to know what you really want. My husband already had made up his mind about the new year’s resolution. He said his most urgent one was to get rid of that big monster that could make a hot day hotter or make the life looks so miserable; my one was to heal the hives and learn to take care of my body better.

Exploring to love: the harmony of the universe

Since I was very young, I have been told not only one time that how the looks of tropical plants and animals could go “out of the imagination”. Think of tropical fishes, how beautiful and colorful they are, but they could be the firecest animals in the world . And also the man-eater trees or flowers described in some creative fictions. They only appeared in a typical rainforest, did they? Anyway, the personal experience in my short Brisbane tour reinforced my impression of the subtropical myth about its bizarre flora and fauna.

About one hour’s stroll in Roma Street Parkland gave us a very good opportunity to take a close look at these beautiful and incredibly bizarre plants. Normally they’ve got very vivid and bright colours that could make themselves appealing enough for human being’s eyes. That colour even could be pure black. Mind you that it’s not the colour you can find in a so-called black tulip. Actually I never believed the black tulips are real black. At most they are very dark red like wine. But check this out! You just could not deny what you have seen in this photo, could you?
The funny shapes are the second feature of Brisbane’s wild plants. Here flowers could look like leaves and leaves could be like flowers. Even futher, the plants could be like animals and the animals could be like the plants. Sometimes you just can not tell which part of the plant you’ve got there. Would it be just a leaf-ish stem? the flower-ish fruits or a fruit-ish flower?
Are they some fruit of thses palm trees?
I thought only coconut could grow on this kind of trees.
Well, you don’t have to know exactly what they are. All being a part of the mother nature, they know how to get along with well each other or say “seamlessly”. But sometimes you might come across something so strange that you just could not help taking a long time doing a little research, like the tree in the following picture. How come a tree could grow like that? The trunk close to the bottom part are so huge, comparing to the top half part, which really looks out of line, does it?
But one of the most interesting things in Brisbane is not only about those bizarre plants, it is also involved in some animals. Taking 10 minutes to walk through the little fern forest that full of long withes hanging up there on the trees, you could easily rush onto some master pieces built by some diligent Internet workers . These net works really amazed me and made me feel myself just a tiny and insignificant little creature who shares the same universe with other creatures as well, no matter they are spiders, flying bugs or some samll insects. Everyone is an expert in his or her own field. We’ve all got lots to learn from others and also lots worth being appreciated or respected by others. And, that is the real world with harmony and diversity that we are living in.
Anyway, let get back to the real beautiful and eye-catching things. I mean without even a bit fear but the total pleasure to enjoy to see. People can very easily find such classic colour matching and contrasting scenes in this place as long as they have the eyes desire to discover and be ready to be surprised. Bend, get yourself kneeled down or just lean forward to get close to them, you would see a wonderful zoomed-in world that completely different from what you have seen when you are rushing with your life through your ordinary and even blind eyes.
Well, I know, I am such a person who always addcites to those sensatory stimulations or maybe “enjoyment” if you want a more decent way to call it. In my eyes, the world is full of competing but also harmonic colors and shapes, meanwhile consists of foreground and background. That’s why I decided that my last photo taken in this tour was at a brick-red wall with some vining plants with some orange colour small flowers. I guess one day I would highly think of these creatures at Brisbane after I get back, because they somehow could remind me the way how I unconsciously forgot about my “self” by exploring the world that holds us all.

Merry Christmas

This is the huge Xmas tree in the Belconnen Shopping Mall. It looks pretty thin and tall like the body of modern fashion model. I have been working on my own Christmas Tree since the end of November. I love hanging the colouful balls and other decorations on the tips and enjoy the fairy lights on at the night very much.

My tree is not that tall as the one in the shopping center:) it’s only 180cm counting the very top tip when put it straight up. We thought 180 would be perfect fiting in our house but we were wrong. After I finished the work, both my husband and I found it not tall enough and we should have bought the 240cm one. Anyway, this is my first Christmas Tree in my life and I suppose that I could take it whatever it looks like easily since it’s my nice try.

Who is my Secret Santa?

I saw 40 happy faces got together waiting to be surprised. It was morning tea time, we’ve got quite lot of sweets and a big box holding all the presents from each secret Santas. Nobody knows what they would get and where the present comes from. The distributing work began. The names were called in to collect their wrapped gifts, and then you can hear people tearing the wrapping paper open and then….you can see the faces getting surprised, disappointed or just a slight smile. I saw Pauline’s face. She undid the wrapping ribbon and hang it on her neck, then she got the red wallet I prepared for her. I tried to believe she did put on a smily face.

I got a present probably suit to a 10 year-old tourist girl. A red Koala backpack. I could not get it on my both shoulders. I am a giant for this kind of little thing. If I consider to by a gift back to China, I would think about this one, but it doesn’t fit me seriously. Who is my Secret Santa?

Tania got a tin of biscuits, and we ate them up before she’s finished for the day. Sinh got a steel-made decoration. It looks like a crown but big smaller and she held it in the hands with a big question mark on her face….what’s the hell this crap? I guess she wants to ask this question. Derrick got a candle set that was the most decent gift I’d love to have, and I guess it’s from a lady and apparentaly she reflects her interests on the gift she is going to give a family man. Simon got a plastic drinking bottle. when he was coughing this afternoon, we all said to him “get some water from your new bottle”. Amanda got a dozen of beers. She said to me “look how people look at me!” Dabbie finally made the sense. Her Secret Santa could be Sasha. She got a toy helicopter with a button that can be pressed to make the noise like the ambulance. She kept pressing it and the noise finally made everyone crazy. Someone says “just stop doing that, will you?”

Poor Andrew, our big boss, got his present at the last. It was a huge white box. The size just keeps people guessing what’s inside. He opened that and got a very small plate with a dry muffin out. All people laughed. Trust me! that muffin must have been dead for at least 2 days and it’s just a joke to make fun of him. He is the boss anyway and he is supposed to have a stronger soul and sacrifice his self-esteem and happiness. Andrew did have a frustrating day and he was really hurt :) He came to our unit in the afternoon tea time and started to ask everyone of us what we’ve got from the Secret Santa. He tried to put my present bag on both of his shoulders but failed like me.

People have gone away to go back to work anyway, but the smile and the discussion still was going. There is only 3 days left for the Christmas Day, but the fun is supposed to last the whole year in 2006. Let’s just say it “may everything begin at peace”, that’s the words engraved on the memorial stone in the Glebe Park nearby our office.
