Mandorla Printed

FRUSTRATING! What should I do with my pretty Mandorla Printed yarn?

I want to knit a cardigan, but I tried two different styles (all my favourite), there will always be one more ball (100g) short no matter how. Last time I’ve been to Spotlight and tried to get more. But staff told me that the yarn is made in Italy and the factory has discontinued making them. It’s no longer possible to put an order now. Then I had to turn to Jessie in Sydney to check out the spotlights shops in two different suburbs. The situation sounds worse, in Queanbeyan shop there are at least some other colour’s yarn left, while there is none in Sydney. I have completely given up. I guess if I keep going ahead with my cardigan plan, there will finally be one sleeve short, and I will end up crying :-) What should I do?

I know it’s not the end of the world, there is always something that we can knit with whatever quantity of yarn, but my good intention and passion for my original plan was screwed up. Of course I know there is always a Plan B, but mind you Plan B has never been the most wanted and the first choice. Who wants to use a fall-back if s/he can use the best?

Believe it or not, I am not a negative person; I even have Plan C, Plan D and Plan E….Actually when I came to the point of thinking about Plan F, I realised how awkward my situation is. You get 100 other options, but none of them is what you want the most :-) It’s absolutely a big lesson that I will learn. I decided that from now on, I will always buy one more ball of yarn than what I thought I will need.

Plan B: buy another two balls of similar colour and weight of yarn, and knit both sleeves with it. Would the cardigan look weird?

Plan C: with current yarn, knit a very tight and short pullover or cardigan with plain pattern. I haven’t seen any of such pattern that I am really happy with.

Plan D: knit a cowl (I have two design of this) and a hat;

Plan E: knit a vest (I have two design of this as well), a hat and a pair of wrist warmer;

Plan F: a Bohemian vest with funny collar and without shaping?

Oh God, help me out:-)

TV Series

Watching this TV series for the second time is definitely not as tense as it was in the first time, but there is a question always puzzles us and looks would never be solved. That question is “Does the leading male character ZHONG Yuemin really loves ZHOU Xiaobai?” And, “why the hell he thought he loves Qin Ling the most?”

We used to refuse to accept the fact that ZHONG Yuemin abandoned ZHOU and was crazy about Qin Ling at a time. He even was dying to look for Qin Ling everywhere to meet her. Xiaobai, an innocent girl with deep and absolute once-a-lifetime’s passion for ZHONG, gets nothing from this guy (who is considered as a person “always on the road” ) for what she gave to this him. And after so many years’ struggling on her fruitless love and relationship, she finally compromised to marry ZHANG, one of ZHONG’s best mates.

My husband couldn’t put up with the scenes whichever was involved Qin Ling’s presence. Actually I also reckon those scenes are awfully made. Except being a singer, the only thing Qin can do is to throw out her rational words and thoughts at her male admirers. She finally gets nowhere, living in a unhappy net she waved for herself. What she said might be correct, but knowing the truth of the life can not guarantee people a happy life. She is a girl who knows everything but owns nothing. I would prefer a smart girl plays silly, not a silly girl plays smart.

My husband and I all agreed that the ZHONG’s character is very profound and has multiple sides. Everybody says he is a person who can do great things one day as he can put up the hardness easily and put down the goodness easily. He didn’t do any great thing, in my opinion; neither is he a great man. He actually ended up being nobody and homeless. People says he hasn’t got a conception about being homeless and nobody, and he is unique and tastes the best part of our lives. I don’t think so. I think he is a lonely player, lacking of deep passion for everything and the worst, his big ego actually stopping him understanding the meaning of love and being loved. How could people love one thing and live for one thing forever if he is a person always travelling “on the road” and likes to see different views of the road? Forget about it.

I did find that very few of the character in the story are what I actually like, but it’s one of the best Chinese TV series I have ever seen and really worth watching. I still remember the first time that we spent two overnights staying up watching them and I had tears for it. Trust me, it’s a story that you just can not switch off very easily.

Lacy Scarf

I have finished the knitting of lacy Scarf. It took me almost one month. I was big slow. Half of my energy was spent on knitting a cardigan with another kind of yarn, which was much more exciting and requires more attention. Anyway my attitude toward this scarf was like toying with some old yarn and playing with something unimportant. I didn’t set any time frame for this project. Whenever I felt boring, I picked it up and knitted several rows; a while later when I felt bored again, I put it down and do something else.

That’s why the project has been held up. There was a while I completely forgot it and the work nearly was at a full stop. Actually knitting the main part of this scarf was a bit boring. It’s made of 16 rows’ fairly easy pattern, which needs to be repeated for 16 times. As there is no requirement for shaping, increasing or decreasing on the edges, I knitted and knitted, always feeling sleepy. The yarn I use is a bit old and yucky, and the colour of yarn is pure smoky grey, not cheerful for an ordinary knitter like me at all. The only thing I felt lucky was that I used 5.5mm needles as instructed on the book, which is big enough to make the knitting not too slow.

The pattern of this scarf is from “Knitting in No Times”. The lace pattern is simple yet pretty. But I enjoyed knitting the edging the most. The whole scarf appeared dramatically different after I sew the knitted edging into the place (around the whole four edges of the scarf). It’s like the sticking-out part of dinosaur’s back. But with soft mohair yarn, it gives you no such scary feelings at all but a bit funny texture and a nice vintage look in overall. It’s good to wear it around the neck, and arrange the edgings or corners nicely over the light colour’s plain office shirts or something shimmery like silk blouses or a top with simple and small lace design, or simply wear it on bare shoulders, as grey goes well with anything. I haven’t pressed it yet; I hope with a bit of pressing, the scarf would look even neater and better.

Long Weekend

I did enjoy this long weekend. It was very relaxing and restful. I finished most of housework on Thursday night, and distributed the rest of them into 3 days, so there was no pressure at all. I felt that it’s been quite a while I could not have a rest like this. Every weekend was occupied by this or that sort of things, with people coming over or we going out. Sometimes we had some quiet Sundays, but that was not long enough to lose my nerves. But this weekend has been so good, and I did a lot but didn’t feel exhausted at all.

We listened to a lot of Jazz songs at home. Thanks the fast downloading speed of ADSL 2+, a song with an ordinary size about 3M only needs 5 seconds to get it done. My husband wrote the good ones into CD, so we can hear it downstairs with our speaker system. I listened to Eva Cassidy, Jane Moheit, Katie Melua, Silje Nergaard, Patricia Barber, Lisa Ekdahl and Carmen Crusta-Loeb’s other albums, feeling I was in a heaven. I also did some knitting. Besides I looked after and cared for my flowers and plants, also tried to figure out if my fish knows me and my husband. We had some easy but delicious food from Suan Cai Yu, La Ba Zhou to Wontons. I began to treat my feet with heel balm cream, and it started to take effect. The skin of my heels improved a lot after I applied it for only a couple of times. I digged up an old Chinese TV series, also my favourite one “Xue Se Lang Man” (Blood-Coloured Romance) to review. After a couple of episodes, I felt I was still attracted deeply by characters’ fates and stories as much as I was in the first time.What if this long weekend would never end!!!
