Cable Bag

Finally, I’ve got this cable bag (a free pattern from Patons) off the needles after having been developing serious crossed eyes for almost one month. During the last a couple of days, I knitted it before sleep time, at Doctor’s clinic and while watching the movies.

The only problem was that I couldn’t get my eyes off the pattern, nor the needles. My husband asked me “why can’t you remember the stitches and just knit it from your memory?” Well man, it’s too complicated to anwer your question. It’s a bit like remembering piano music sheets. The only difference is that you play the piano for hundred times to remeber one piece of work, while knitting this one only gives you a couple of times to repeat the whole pattern.

But cable knitting is the most amazing thing that I have found in the art of knitting business. 32 rows of pattern costs you a long time to get to there but by the time you finish it, you can see that the final effect is so rewarding and all your hard work and crossed eyes are so worthwhile.

The only amendment I made is to increase pattern panel C to 2.5 times repeated instead of 2 times, which allowed me to make the bag a little big longer than the original design. Also I made a lining to make sure the bag more durable. I did try my best, considering that I actually hate lining, sewing and weaving the ends in a knitting project.

I could have purchased a pair of bigger handles for this bag. The woden handles I used were from an old summer bag. I discarded the bag two years ago but kept the handles for future use. I know the Spotlight sells all sorts of woden handles with different colours. Maybe dark brown would suit this bag much better than this pair of light maple ones.

Now the next question, when will the summer finish?

Low Iron

Today we went to Doctor’s to see the blood test result. Not like what I had worried, neither of us have high cholesterol or any sign of getting diabetes and other fat intake excesses related diseases.

My husband’s test result seems perfectly healthy even though we worried about some very small fatty cells growing on his body. But it looks he just has the tendency to get those things no matter he is underweight or overweight. I started to believe that it probably has nothing to do with what he eats.

My test result is okay as well, except I was told by the doctor that I have a relatively lower iron level than normal people. I asked what food particularly contains high level of iron, she suggested “red meat”. Oh no, she must be kidding. Didn’t I eat enough red meat in the past? I know clearly that this is not what my heart cries for. In the past year, I almost have lost my interested in eating meat. Now I was required to get back to that, that’s not gonna happen.

Another way to build up iron is to take Ferrogradumet one tablet daily at period time as chronic bleeding inside body (like gum disease, bladder problem) or any blood loss can cause insufficient iron level. Well, this solution interests me neither. I think I would rather staying with an image of low iron blood, pale face and feeling fatigue occassionally :-)

The Way Up page contains a full explanation of iron deficiency. Guess What? I saw a lot of my favourite food in its list of food with high iron. I wondered why I still have low iron since I like the food this much???? Bizarre….

The Cactus Pot

I guess I’ve been nagging about getting succulent plants for so long that my husband finanlly got sick of me talking over and over and over again besides his ears, so today I’ve got my favourite cactus plant home, in a pink bowl-liked pot with three different types, aloe, columnnar one and a Beehive shape.

I just can’t be more satisfied (me giggling….). I will hold it in tonight’s sleep….

Knitted Pumpkin Toy

I had a reflection about why I made this pumpkin after I’ve done it and I realised that there have at least three major reasons: 1) digging up my stash, every colour of yarn has been left just too few to make anything. 2) I was very bored, desperately needing something totally out of my league to knit. 3) It must be quick and fun….

So I browsed the Internet and found CurlyPurly’s Pumpkin Knitting Pattern. I am totally not a toy knitter and had never ever been interested in knitting a toy, but left-over yarn, a couple of free hours and an occassional playful heart can make people change. I didn’t only kill the left-overs, but also some worn cloth (cut to small pieces for stuffing).

I know it’s Christmas and New Year holiday, and the Hallowen Day has gone two months ago. But I suppose that I could decide when I can have my fun, could I? Here is another one – Alien is landing on the earth :-)

Over the Rainbow

There was a quick shower happened this evening. Then, I saw a rainbow hanging up there in the sky. There is something in this world that only exists in a flash. But you don’t need more than a glance to fall in love with it.

Thinking of Wizard of OZ, Judy Garland and the song “Over the Rainbow”, but I love Eva Cassidy’s version performed at Blues Alley much much better.

Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There’s a land that I’ve heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can’t I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why oh why can’t I?

Drying Flowers

A boring working day. There were only 3 phone calls for the whole day. I decided to play with dying roses. Grabbed all the petals off and lay them on a piece of tissue paper, then waiting…waiting….. waiting to see the changes.

How long would that take? Would color fade? Would the smell keep the same? and would they turn out just as pretty as when they are alive? God! I must be really bored…..
