Pill Reminder Case

I bought a pill reminder case for my husband as he kind of started to get confused about if he had or had NOT taken the pill for each day. Well, since Warfarin is such a serious medication that we really can not afford to have the dose taken wrong or missed.

I checked out the pharmacy shop and finally decided to go for this one, a green round plastic thing like a UFO with 7 days plastic cells each of which can hold up to 30 aspirin sized pills. It has push button in the middle and to open the cell, you need to push down the button and lift the cell lid at the same time. The things I love the most about this case is A, it’s cute and compact and easy to slip in any travel luggage; B, it’s well sealed and very secure with the lids, even when it’s dropped.

Anyway it now sits there on my husband’s desk like a little alien weapson. Very cute! Well, I sort of hope it can scream or talk as well :-)

PE Updates

Since my husband got PE, I had been hearing about it all the time (I wondered why I didn’t know that at all 3 weeks ago). I have a client who had PE on the same weekend when my husband had his go. Then today I’ve got another phone call from a client saying that her husband just passed away last night in the Emergency Department in Bega Hospital because of PE. WHAT THE HELL????????

I told what I heard to my husband. It’s really hard sitting there imagining that you almost died or you could have died when the worst part is all over. You sort of couldn’t link the thing to yourself and it takes time to realise you are no longer an outsider but someone IN the situation.

Anyway my husband has been to the Doctor’s for his normal INR blood test today and part of the previous blood test results had come back. They found there could be some genetic reason, called Protein C Deficiency, caused PE on him, which means it runs in the families (inherited) and he was not made properly when he was born :-)

His Protein C studies shows that he had way too low value that was 18 (the normal people’s Protein C ranges from 70-130). It’s a rare genetic disease and was only first described in 1981.The prevalence of protein C deficiency has been estimated to about 0.2% to 0.5% of the general population. In China, the chance to get Protein C Deficiency is about one in every 16,000 people ( Well, we both reckon we should go buy lottos).

So it’s good news and bad news. Good news is that we kind of know what causes the problem, and the bad news is that if that is the case, my husband probably has to take “rat poison” (Warfarin) for the rest of his life.

Spider’s Web

I caught a spider’s web in front of one of the houses on the way to work. I was amazed by the weaving work that a spider could do, which also reminded me the cartoon movie “Charlot’s web” where Julia Roberts did the voice over for Charlot.

Don’t you think this world is amazing? We use knitting needles to weave threads into something While spiders create their artwork in their own artistic way without reading a knitting pattern or using a needle. Where do the ideas come from? And how can a small insect have the intelligence to make such a big and so construed work on their own? Aren’t they adorable?

It’s a shame that I couldn’t take any photo as I was in hurry and it’s totally not appropriate to do this on other people’s property. So I posted an old photo of spider’s web that we took in Brisbane in 2005.

Lavender Stalks

We spent 3 hours on pulling the lavender seeds off the stalks. Mind you that we have two armful of stalks from one of my colleagues’ backyard and those are only two third of one bush and she’s got 16 bushes at home.

The whole office was full of strong lavender smell and even down the other end of arcade, I can still smell it. After an hour’s work, my nose began to feel funny and both my index fingers got black and rough. I was so over it and no longer care what the benefits lavender can have.

It’s said that the lavender bag has become a tradition for many people who come along to the CF. They just want to pick up the bag and then they will feel okay (I don’t understand this part).

To be honest, I never felt lavender’s smell was soothing or nice, neither did I understand why such strong smell could treat sinus and insomnia, although their flowers do look very pretty.

Stardust is Done

Yeh………..!!!!!

It’s my very first fitted knitwear and it took me a lot of time figuring out right shaping by increasing and decreasing the stitches on all the pieces. Actually with lace pattern (even it’s a quite simple lace pattern), the shaping of this cardigan had caused more confusion and I am so glad that I don’t have a mushy head and have always been good at mathematics :-) Otherwise I don’t know where I would end up.

Also I am glad that I chose the right size 36″ and the wet blocking did work out to allow all the ribs expand finally and give the cardigan a reasonable decent finishing look. The ties in the front look gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to wear it with other clothes to see how it matches with other colour.

Well, colour….I think it’s a pretty pink colour and normally pink suits me quite well. But this one is slightly a bit of too dark for my skin tone and the texture of the yarn actually draw more attention than the design itself.

Did I mention that the yarn is at least 15 years old and my mom bought it in Germany when she went over for a business trip up there in early 90s? Actually she also bought a blue colourway one. But I doubted if she had ever finished knitting anything with that :-) I guess she has her stash and I wondered if one day I would end up exactly just like her :-)

Anyway my knitting plan is being carried out slowly and smoothly. This is the first knitting project with my Chinese yarn. There are at least another 4 in the queue.

They’re finally gone!

Remember about a month ago my husband placed a couple of ads for some items that we tried to sell on the Internet? The weight scale had gone the next day with 10 bucks back and a few people rang up to ask about the couch and the studying desk. Some of them said they wouldn’t come cover to have a look, but the truth is they never did.

So our couch and desk actually ended up looking quite unwanted sitting in the corner quietly :-( I suppose where we live really affects people’s access to what they want to buy. Most of people gave up once they know that we live in Queanbeyan. God, for Canberra people, Queanbeyan is a LONG LONG way (actually it’s only 18k from Civic). Mind you most of people living in Sydney have to travel more than 40 minutes to get to their work place every day.

Never mind! They’ve been in this house with us for so long and why would we mind having them for a bit longer? My husband loves the couch very much and I, hate its colour almost as much as he likes its comfort. That white little desk was the one accompanied me to go through all my studying time in Sydney and I passed one of the most important exams in my life with it.

However, this evening they are all gone as my husband and I decided to contribute them to his club for a fund raising garage sale tomorrow. Lovely Jas and her muscling boyfriend Paul collected them after the dinner, along with two Ikea CD stands, a radiator heater, a Bu Bu Gao traditional red telephone set, lots of clothes, magazines and some music DVDs. I hope they will go to the next person who would like them as we did.

The corner then looked a bit of empty. I vacuumed the carpet and as we had planned long time ago, we are going to use the space as our exercise corner. So Yoga mat is spreaded out and gym ball thrown in. I already started to imagine how my husband will be doing his push-ups here and how I am going to do the twistings. Well, the ending of a story is also the begining of a story.
